We periodically send out a reminder email to free clients stating the inactive free accounts will be terminated. We often get a reply from 200+ people who are wondering if their website will be deleted. I just wanted to get this post in here to explain how this process works.
PurgeHosting has backgrounds scripts that scan access logs, check for illegally uploaded content and various other aspects of each free account. This is all done in the background and does not effect your account in any way. With this data, we’re able to find websites which have not recieived any hits for 3, 4, or even 5 months in a row. What makes our amazing free hosting possible is the fact that we manage the accounts.
Every account is checked every 2 or 3 months. Here’s a few things we look for:
- When was the last time someone visted with website?
- When was the last time this client logged in?
- Does the domain still point to our name servers?
- Or.. does the domain still exist?
- Are there any files in the public_html directory?
- Does it appear as if their is a website on the account?
If your website failes 1 or more of these tests, then it’s deleted. There is no reason for us to be hosting accounts with are not used. If your domain expired, renew it. Make sure you don’t use our servers for personal sotorage. And chances are, if you read the email and replied to it, your account wont be deleted.
This policy does not effect paid clients, shared, reseller, or custom, you should not get an email or any kind of notice in your email regarding account termination.
